Falling Creek Ironworks Park was North America's first iron production facility, having been discovered as a rich iron ore area by the Virginia Company in 1619. It later served as a gristmill and had various other jobs, but is now an ongoing archaeological site providing historical and iron production information.

Pocahontas State Park is Virginia's largest state park and offers hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, boating, picnicking, fishing, an Aquatic Center with pools, water activities, and boat rentals. Also on the grounds is a museum dedicated to the Civilian Conservation Corps who helped to build the park.

The Appomattox River and Heritage Trail is a popular place for whitewater rafting, fishing, canoeing, birdwatching, and hiking the trails on this historic land where the Appomattox and James Rivers meet and where some of the earliest settlers in Virginia once roamed.

Henricus Historical Park is a living history museum that teaches visitors through interactive interpretations and reenactments about Colonial life in this former English settlement from 1611. There are performances throughout the 12 recreated buildings such as the blacksmith forge, hospital, soldier's house, and planter's house.

Richmond:
