The 59th Ordnance Brigade was established in 1943 as a headquarters detachment of the 331st Ordnance Battalion, and reorganized as as headquarters detachment, 59th Ordnance Group the next year. The 59th fought with distinction in World War II, in Central Europe and the Rhineland. In the Korean War the 59th fought in five campaigns, and earned a Meritorious Unit Citation, before being transferred to Germany. In the 1990s the 59th was deactivated in Europe and reactivated two years later at Redstone Arsenal, and since transferred to Fort Lee for ordnance training.
